Annual Events

Health Fair
Each summer this is an event, which provides access to the health care community.  The agenda includes interactive workshops and informative speakers. The objective is to introduce/reintroduce our participants to a health conscious approach to everyday living. Vendors make numerous services available; mammograms, HIV and STD testing, manicures, facials, hair cuts, fitness and more!

Clothing Drives
Twice a year (May and October) gently worn and new clothes are donated from many charitable sources, they are provided to DWJS–SFFP participants and members of the WOPAA membership.

Conference
The annual summertime event for the WOPAA organization is a conference which focuses on pertinent community issues and addresses the unique needs of formerly and currently incarcerated females. The format has featured speakers from elected officials to motivational speakers. Informative workshops provide a forum for learning and interaction which will facilitate change for both the individual and the community in general.

The key to this event is that it provides a special dynamic. It is Peer driven as are the above mentioned events but it is unique in that the WOPAA organization partners with all providers of the services that catapulted its membership’s success. The recovery community, treatment providers, elected officials (legislators), as well as representation by the criminal justice system. This event is the culmination of the efforts of parties truly committed to rehabilitation of women in the criminal justice system and their successful reentry into the community.

Holiday Celebrations
Holidays are difficult for women with the circumstances and situations and experiences that lead to incarceration. The WOPAA works with the DWJS, community outreach, churches, volunteers and many other organizations to provide Holiday meals for all program participants. Food baskets and prepared holiday dinners are included. Christmas gifts are also donated for some of the children of the membership of women of power.
